Copper sulphate is a long-standing staple of the farrier's kit, valued as an effective fungicide and disinfectant around the foot. It is particularly useful in glue-on work: mixed into dental impression materials or acrylic adhesives when bonding on shoes and plates, it helps guard against the hoof becoming soft and crumbly — a common problem when air is excluded from the hoof wall and sole beneath pads and packing.
