The Dallmer (D) Flaccidity Heel Extension Foal Cuff is a proven treatment for newborn foals with angular limb deformities, flaccidity of the tendons and ballerina syndrome. Originally designed in co-operation with the leading American veterinary surgeon and farrier Dr Ric Redden, the heel extension projecting from the back of the cuff reduces the fetlock-joint angle and supports the tendons, allowing the soft tissue to strengthen and correct over time. When fitting, the overhanging heels of the extension should sit approximately 1-2 cm outside the plumb-line from the coronary border at the heels. Vettec SuperFast adhesive is recommended for application - it holds the cuff within 30 seconds and fully hardens within 2-3 minutes, keeping fitting time to a minimum. Due to the rapid horn growth of young foals, the cuffs should not remain glued to the hoof for longer than three weeks, as this could cause the feet to become contracted. Three sizes are available, measured by width at the widest point: 1 (55 mm), 2 (70 mm) and 3 (85 mm).
