Jon Atkinson Carthorse Stamp

A bigger-bodied nail stamp from Jon Atkinson's shoemaking range, proportioned specifically for heavy horse work and set up for E10 and E12 nails. The extra mass behind the head lets the stamp move hot steel efficiently, producing clean, consistent nail holes in the heavier sections used for draft shoes. The head is forged from hot-work, shock-resistant H13 tool steel for strength and long service life, and is mounted on a quality 13" hickory shaft. Like all JA stamps it is finished to a standard that allows it to take a plain stamped nail hole from start to finish. To prolong the working shape of the stamp, Jon recommends starting nail holes with an older, squarer 'starter' stamp to forge out any blips at the edge of the steel, then finishing the hole with this stamp for a crisp final fit.
