The Natural Balance Wedge Pad from EDSS is designed around the biomechanics of the equine foot. Research has shown horses should land slightly heel-first to properly engage the coffin joint at ground contact, with the frog buttress and the back of the foot doing the work of aligning the joint, absorbing concussion, dissipating energy and maximising blood flow. Conventional shoeing can minimise the caudal frog's ability to function; the Natural Balance pad helps recapture and enhance the use of the back part of the foot. As a treatment tool, the wedge pad can be fitted right-side-up to alter hoof angle like a wedged rim pad, or upside-down as a cradle pad to support a prolapsed frog in a horse with a negative palmar/plantar angle. Available in Small and Large, in Wedged and Wedged-Perforated patterns — the perforated version retains injectable urethanes and silicone support materials.
