The Werkman Orthokit 2.0 remains true to the original Ortho-Kit concept while enlarging the range of easy-to-use orthopaedic horseshoe inserts. The additional patterns were designed from the experience of farriers in the field and are supported by the same scientific research programme from the University of Leipzig that underpinned the original kit. As with Orthokit 1.0, the system provides an effective and straightforward means of turning standard Werkman horseshoes into various therapeutic shoes: the appropriate insert is welded into a regular shoe, so the farrier can build the required orthopaedic shoe on the job without carrying a large stock of specialist bar shoes. Orthokit 2.0 extends the range to the Z-bar shoe, central bar shoe, spider plate shoe, lateral extension shoe and heart bar shoe. Refill sets for the individual insert types are available separately in multiple sizes.
